Teaching English as a Foreign Language

When I was a foreign teacher in Taiwan on a Fulbright Fellowship in 2008-2009, I compiled a lot of great resources for teachers and students. This page is dedicated to those great teaching aids. You will find that this page is separated into Lesson Planning, Curriculum Content, Multimedia in the Classroom, and Other Resources.

                                            Lesson Planning:

                                            Kidz Club Worksheets

Free worksheets for teachers to print out!

UCLA Resources for Teaching Foreign Languages

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has recently launched a teaching resource site for less commonly taught languages, including Mandarin. Check out these resources for your classroom that you can modify and adapt.

                                            The English Neighborhood

A site where teachers can access lesson plans and post their own. This site is specifically for teaching English as a second language. Developed by Yilan ETAs (English Teaching Assistants) a few years ago.

                                            Curriculum Content:

                                            American Culture

A powerpoint I made from my own resources and from a Yilan presentation a few years ago. This powerpoint teaches students about diversity and difference.

A Video that Explains Halloween in Chinese

                                            BrainPop Jr. explains Thanksgiving!

A video and website that explains Thanksgiving and many other holidays.

                                            Multimedia in the Classroom:

                                            SuperTeacherTools!

Excellent website with free downloads to Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, etc.
